Brazilian Paris in the Roaring Twenties

Tarsila do Amaral
On 6th January 2025
18:30 - 20:30

In 1922, the first sambas resounded in Pigalle's clubs, performed by the black musicians of the Batutas, who moved between jazzmen and gypsy formations. At the Madeleine, the artistic avant-garde jostled for position at the Bœuf sur le toit, a cabaret with a carnivalesque name inspired by a Brazilian ballet by Darius Milhaud. Brazil, sung by Blaise Cendrars and Tarsila do Amaral, is also home to the sambistas, social dancers and black's step that thrill the Black Paris of the Roaring Twenties.
